Back-to-School Drive: A Community Tradition of Growth

At CASA for Children of Essex County, we believe that being prepared is powerful. When children in foster care show up to school with the supplies they need, they can focus on learning, growing, and thriving—just like their peers. Over the past five years, our Back-to-School Drive has blossomed into a true community tradition, ensuring that year after year, our youth walk into classrooms ready to succeed.

This year’s effort was our most impactful yet. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of donors who shopped for brand-new supplies and the volunteers who gave their time to sort, pack, and prepare, more than 500 foster youth across Essex County began the school year fully equipped and confident.

And we didn’t stop at pencils and notebooks. Alongside the basic school essentials, we provided hygiene packs, period products, coats, sneakers, and new clothing, so every child could step into the classroom with dignity and comfort.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the donors whose gifts filled our shelves and to the many volunteers—including our dedicated CASA advocates—who picked up the supplies and personally delivered them to the children they serve.

The energy and care made this year’s Back-to-School Drive a tremendous success. Together, we’re building momentum for the next five years—and beyond—ensuring that every Essex County child placed in foster care, starts the school year ready to learn and ready to shine.
