Essex County CASA is actively seeking individuals who may be interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a child in foster care. Training classes are held four times a year. Advocates attend 33 hours of in-class training before being sworn in by a Family Court Judge, enabling them to carry out case investigations and make recommendations about permanency for the child assigned to them. Additionally, CASA Cafés - seminars and workshops - are offered continually so that Advocates may elect to broaden their knowledge conveniently. CASA volunteers make a real difference in a child's life.
A written application, personal interview, three references, criminal background check, fingerprinting and attendance at all training sessions is required to become a CASA volunteer. See The Role of a CASA, CASA FAQs, and the 20-Point Case Practice Protocol for more information on being a volunteer CASA Advocate.
If you are interested in becoming "a powerful voice in a child's life," please call Carol Costello, our Volunteer Director, at 973-648-3351 to receive an information packet and a volunteer application. When we receive your completed application, you will be contacted to schedule a personal interview with a staff member. You can also email us for additional information at info@casaessex.org.
Want to help us be green? Submit your volunteer application by email! Click on the Volunteer Application link to open an editable PDF version of our application. Fill in the application, save it to your PC or Mac, and send it back to us attached to an email.

"You fill the emptiness they feel with hope, with love and with the belief that they will have an opportunity to have a future. Children have children (mothers at age 14) because they want someone to love, without understanding it is a lifetime responsibilty to care for a child, because no one ever cared for them.
Tonight, you tell yourself, I will complain no more; if you hear others complain, you put them to shame. You say, 'Come with me, I am CASA, I make opportunity for a child, I make a difference in the life of a child.'
Some say when they look at the world, there is 'justice' and there is 'just us.' We cannot grow weary; we cannot leave this work for others.
Everyday, everyday."
