Volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates

Essex County CASA is actively seeking individuals who may be interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a child in foster care.  Successful applicants, professionally trained and supervised by CASA staff, are appointed by a Family Court Judge to carry out case investigations and make recommendations about permanency for the foster child assigned to them.  Training classes are held four to five times a year.  A written application, personal interview, three references, criminal background check and 30 hours of in-class training are required before being sworn in by a Family Court Judge.  Additionally, CASA Graduate Series - seminars and workshops - are offered continually so that Advocates may elect to broaden their knowledge conveniently. CASA volunteers make a real difference in a child's life.

See The Role of an Advocate for more information on being a volunteer CASA Advocate

If you are interested in becoming "a powerful voice in a child's life," call Chere Koontz-Torres at 973-693-6785 to receive an information packet and a volunteer application. A personal interview can be scheduled following completion and return of the application.  You can also email us by contacting Carol Costello, Volunteer Director at ccostello@casaessex.org.
