Essex County CASA has employment opportunities for two Case Supervisors to work with volunteer advocates providing advocacy services to abused and neglected children in foster care. 

 

The Case Supervisor provides guidance and support to volunteers as they work toward permanency for children and ensuring that needs are met while children are in foster care. 

 

The duties of a Case Supervisor include:

Manage and support up to 30 volunteers through consultation, problem solving, troubleshooting, feedback, guidance, evaluation, motivation, training, monitoring and preparation for court appearances.

Monitor volunteer involvement in cases and case activity, while assuring that organization policy, standards and sound case management practices are followed.
Demonstrate knowledge of each case child’s needs, case history and pertinent advocacy issues.

Attend court hearings with the volunteer.
Represent the organization within the child welfare system, the family court system and on Model Court committees.
Participate in program implementation, evaluation and planning.
Participate in training and interviewing prospective CASA volunteers.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Program and/or Executive Director.

Qualifications to be a Case Supervisor include:
Minimum of bachelor’s degree, preferably B.S.W. or related field with two years relevant experience; Graduate degree in social work, law, human services or related field highly desirable.


Experience necessary to be a Case Supervisor includes:
Experience in volunteer management, competence in and commitment to the field of child welfare. Solid knowledge base regarding child abuse and neglect, advocacy, family dynamics, cultural issues, family court and the social service system. Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency.

Additional required skills include:

Must demonstrate collaboration and leadership ability as well as a sound understanding of the principles of volunteer management and child welfare. Requires excellent verbal and written communication and advocacy skills, ability to work well in a fast-paced and changing environment and to handle multiple priorities. Needs to be confident, an effective public speaker, flexible, organized and responsible. Needs to be able to consult, problem solve and work collaboratively. Must demonstrate commitment to the organization’s philosophy of skilled volunteer advocacy.
